I bought a tablet today. After many weeks of meditation, I have been able to get to the store, choose it, and during the checkout process, I have still been able to doubt even if that was the one I wanted or was it someone else. Therefore, if you do not want to make a mistake, you must solve very important questions before buying it.
And it is not a question of choosing between one option or the other, but of being completely sure why one wants to opt for that option. Even so, you will hesitate and leave the store without knowing if you have made the correct purchase, but the more you think about it, the more confident you will be that the decision is correct. Now, what do you have to think so much about before buying a tablet? What are the questions that need to be answered very clearly? We have summarized it all in six vitally important questions.
1.- Choose the screen size
Before it was very simple. There was only the Apple iPad, and only 10 inches. There were no doubts, because it was also considered the only size that existed in the world. But later the seven-inch tablets emerged, and later the eight, and the nine-inch, now Samsung seems to want to launch the twelve and thirteen inches, although there is also talk of an eleven-inch. On the other hand, there are those that are somewhat smaller, just over six inches. Plus all the fractions of screen sizes out there. Thus, choosing the screen size is something we have to decide. I have opted for the 10 inches. I had doubts, especially because of the price, which varied a lot. The technical specifications were the same, but in the end I chose the 10-inch one because I use it for work, and it is much more useful in my case.
2.- With or without mobile Internet connectivity?
The second question is complicated too. Before the decision was also easy. One opted for the WiFi version, without a mobile data connection. However, that was before, when tablets weighed a lot more. Now tablets weigh less, we can carry them in a backpack almost without noticing it, and being permanently connected has become essential. On the other hand, tablets consume a greater amount of data than mobiles, so using the mobile network through the wireless modem is not an option if we are going to use it a lot in mobility. In my case, I have opted for a WiFi only version. I work a lot from home, and when I go out, I connect to the mobile network. As I do not spend a lot of mobile data, there is no problem. And the price difference was really remarkable. It is not only the expense of the tablet to have the 4G option, but also the payment of the extra fee to have Internet on the tablet.
3.- Choose a brand
Sometimes, we can choose a tablet simply because of its characteristics, without thinking about the brand. However, there are companies that are characterized by offering some options that others do not, and vice versa. For example, a Nexus tablet will be updated before any other, but a Samsung tablet bought in the store in the city that we know will make it easier for us to replace it in case of failure. Well-known brands will also offer us more confidence if we have to execute the warranty.
4.- Do you need a tablet to work?
If you want a tablet to work with, then you have other factors to consider. You have to look at the applications that you are going to want to use, and then, see if they are available in the operating system that you are going to choose. Buying a tablet to work and then not being able to have the apps you wanted is something really negative. And the same can be said for the technical characteristics. It is not so important that it is the best on the market, or that it is the cheapest, as that it has the necessary technical specifications to be compatible with the apps you are going to use.
5.- What accessories do you want?
And the same goes for accessories. A designer might be very interested in using one of those precision pointers that are available on the market, some of which are only compatible with the iPad. On the other hand, it could be more interesting to buy a Galaxy Note, since they have the S Pen included and a series of functions already adapted for it.
6.- How much money are you going to spend?
Finally, we must take into account the money that one wants to spend. Whenever recommendations are made on how to choose a good product, one starts from a base, and it is the money that one can spend, and that must be data that should not be modified. The expense that one wants to make is established, and a limit in case one wants to expand it, and it stays at that. Excessive spending will make the purchase ultimately unprofitable. Therefore, being very clear about what you want to spend is vital so as not to go from 200 euros to 600 euros almost without realizing it.
