  • Firefox OS, Mozilla's new mobile operating system, will arrive in Spain, Brazil, Venezuela, Portugal and Poland in June.
  • The first devices with Firefox OS will be from Alcatel, LG, ZTE and Huawei, with prices starting at 80 euros.
  • The goal is to compete directly with Android and offer affordable options in struggling markets.
  • Major apps like Facebook and Twitter are developing Firefox OS versions ready for release.

Gary Kovacs, the president of Mozilla, has stated that the next mobile operating system and strong rival to Android already has confirmation of arrival in our country dated for the month of June. Given the Firefox OS is a project carried out by the guys from Mozilla, backed by the big Telefónica, the first five regions to receive the new mobile software coincide with those countries where Telefónica (Movistar) has weight and leadership, the following regions are listed: Spain, Venezuela, Brazil, Portugal and Poland. Kovacs has also confirmed that Firefox OS will reach more countries by the end of the year and that its most ambitious goal is to cover the United States during 2014.

During the MWC in Barcelona, Telefónica announced the first countries it would reach firefox os, as well as the first phones that would be launched initially with this new mobile operating system that comes with the desire to take away a good portion of its market from Android. The first manufacturers to jump on the bandwagon of the new Firefox OS would be Alcatel One Touch, LG, ZTE, and Huawei, of which we already knew their first proposals, such as the Alcatel One Touch Fire, and ZTE Open, both entry-level terminals designed to bring cheap models to the market with a starting price of 80 euros, a timely philosophy for countries with economic difficulties.

Thus, Telefónica and Mozilla they have met expectations They showed us in Barcelona, where they pointed out that the first terminals would go on sale in mid-2013 in Brazil, Colombia, Spain and Venezuela. We see that they are meeting the dates, although in terms of regions there has been some change: it seems that for the moment Colombia is out and, nevertheless, Portugal and Poland are added to the first edition of Firefox OS.

Gary Kovacs has also explained that these first terminals will arrive with several applications necessary for the first start-up. A) Yes, Facebook, Twitter, MTV, EA Sports and Disney, offer their support to the new system for which they will carry out the development of their own applications with the aim that in the month of June everything is ready for the operation of the first Firefox OS smartphones.
