Samsung could use HD LCD screens in 2013

  • Samsung is switching from AMOLED to HD LCD displays on its mobile devices.
  • The new HD LCD screens will have a density of up to 400 pixels per inch.
  • The transition to LCD will begin in 2023 with new models of phones and tablets.
  • AMOLED panels will remain in the low-end range for a while longer.

For a long time, AMOLED or SuperAMOLED screens have been characteristics of devices oriented to the mobility of Samsung. But this may be close to changing since the Korean company has been preparing its factories for some time to be able to manufacture massively and with more than convincing quality: the HD LCD.

As indicated SamMobile, the decision would already be made in the company and, therefore, throughout the next year The new models of phones and tablets with this type of bread will begin to be seen and, consequently, the AMOLED type will come to an end (gradually since, most likely, the terminals that belong to the low range will continue with them for some time plus).

In addition, as we have indicated before, and as confirmed by Samsung itself, its factories are already prepared to be able to generate more than enough LCD panels in High Resolution (HD), something that companies such as LG or Sharp have also indicated.

Impressive pixel density

This is one of the keys that has led Samsung to make this determination. According to the same source, Samsung's HD LCD screens could bequeath to a 400 pixel density per inch (Sharp indicated that it could go up to 443 dpi), so the image quality would be really high. Of course, nothing has been indicated about consumption, this being an essential section in the world of mobile devices.

Therefore, the time of the AMOLED panels in the models of the Korean company seems to be coming to an end, although the beginning of the development - not the manufacture - of those compatible with HD had been confirmed. Therefore, the time of the inclusion of AMOLED screens in the Jet and Omnia models, which were the first, will stick to something for the history books, and thus will be almost a collector's item.
