Sony has announced a new photographic sensor for smartphones, the Exmor RS IMX230, which could also be the sensor that the Sony Xperia Z4 camera would have, something that would be quite logical if we consider that this smartphone would be presented in two months, at CES 2015. It is not the same camera as we already talked, and we thought it would be the smartphone camera.
In this case, we are talking about a sensor 21 megapixels, which would mean that there would not be a noticeable difference in sensor resolution. However, that is not too relevant, as the resolution is already of a sufficient level. You have to have many high-level cameras that today are considered professionals have resolutions even lower than this. The fact that the resolution of this sensor is the same as that of previous Sony sensors means that the Japanese company has improved other characteristics of the camera, something that is very positive, because now we will not simply have a high-resolution camera, but a camera with very balanced characteristics.
Two characteristics of this sensor should be highlighted. On the one hand, we have that it is capable of recording in 4K resolution. We do not know what the recording speed will be, which in the sensor we talked about last week was 16.000 fps in Full HD. We do not know the recording data of this sensor, so we cannot say yet what the speed will be, although we can assume that it will reach the 240 fps necessary for slow-motion recording.
The other feature is that it will be the first camera capable of automatically focusing on a moving object without losing its focus, something to which the fact that this new sensor has 192 focus points will undoubtedly contribute. In any case, we will have to wait until January for Sony presents the new Sony Xperia Z4, and thus confirm all the characteristics, both of the flagship, and of the other smartphones that will be launched, the Sony Xperia Z4 Compact and the Sony Xperia Z4 Ultra, in addition to the Xperia Z4 Tablet.
