bloatware It could be translated into Spanish as 'bloated software', 'filler software'. And it is called that, in a pejorative way, because they are computer programs –applications, in the case of mobile devices- that are considered of little or no use. And, of course, they come pre-installed. And in the Android ecosystem, bloatware is usually a product of layers of customization from smartphone manufacturers.
The concept of bloatware has evolved greatly. And what was previously considered only 'bloated software', now it is considered rather 'filler software'. The difference is that previously larger applications were considered bloatware and Resource consumption than predecessor versions without causing a positive impact on end users. Now, however, it is considered bloatware to all those pre-installed applications with little or no real usefulness. That is, applications that seem to be there only to extend the list of 'services' offered.
What exactly is bloatware and why is it considered a nuisance even though it seems user-focused?
El bloatware, at this point, are applications that, as we said, lack a truly practical utility for the user. Some manufacturers have customization layers with an extensive list of own applications, of which few seem really focused on favoring the user. And therefore, they are a powerful tool of marketing, but they really are a nuisance For different reasons.
The first, that they represent an unnecessary expense of the storage space Of the device; the second, because they take up screen space in the app drawer, where they can 'be lost' really useful and interesting apps. And the third, although we could find others, which represent a Resource consumption of the system that could be used better. The CPU, RAM or connectivity can be affected by apps and services that the user does not really want.
There have been especially serious cases in which manufacturers, long ago, installed bloatware on mobile phones to collect information about users and the use of their devices. And obviously, there are also pre-installed applications that do differentiate themselves from software from other manufacturers. That they do provide interesting utilities, and that they can affect the purchasing decision due to the positive impact on the end user of the device.
