Video calls are the order of the day, it is one of the most demanded means by users to connect and talk remotely, even if they separate us many kilometers from the other person. All the apps for this purpose, such as WhatsApps, Google Duo or Skype, have seen how their use by users has not stopped increasing. Something we can do is record these video calls in a very simple way.
It does not have to have a perverse motive, it can simply be as a memory of a conversation with that person that we only see once a year, or to perpetuate a bet that cannot be forgotten, or even for a job interview. Thus, we are going to show how to record video calls.
Are these recordings allowed?
It is a delicate matter to record calls and save conversations. There are several cases that can occur and that differ with respect to their legality, since everything resides in whether we are part of the conversation or not. We remind you that according to article 18.3 of the Constitution, a conversation can only be recorded if you are part of it, so third parties are not allowed, unless it is a duly authorized agent of the Corps of the State. As long as we comply with that premise, no legal problems to record video calls.
Of course, as long as they are not made public or disseminated by the network, that it is only for personal use, as we have commented a few lines above. In the case of not complying with this condition, article 2 of the Organic Law on Data Protection would also be breached.
Anyway, and the best way to do things is by notifying the other party of the video call that we are going to do it, so that we don't have any problems.
As of Android 9, audio cannot be recorded
In this case, the version of Android that we have in the terminal is more important than ever. Since Android 9 Pie, Google has imposed restrictions on the method used by apps to record calls. In practice, they mean that Android 9 Pie apps can't record internal audiobut only through the microphone.

Of course, many apps dedicated to this utility have managed to overcome the obstacle by capturing through the microphone, although we must emphasize that this method does not work in WhatsApp video calls, since the microphone is in use by WhatsApp and the recording app does not have access to it. As long as it is another video call app, there will be no problem recording them.
How to record video calls
Many applications do not allow the recording of the video call from the mobile (which is more common from a PC), at least for now. Therefore, we must resort to an external alternative to achieve our purpose, always with the aim that it requires little time and is free, something that our pockets appreciate.
Today, the only way on Android is to directly record what happens on the smartphone screen. For this, there are many options to choose from in the Play Store, but to carry out this tutorial, we have to choose one. The chosen one is AZ Screen Recorder, but there are many more that offer similar functions.
Before making the video call, we make sure that the app captures both the video and the audio of the conversation. To do this, we open the recorder, although only a floating icon will appear that we can move anywhere on the screen. If we click on it, a drop-down menu will be displayed with several options, selecting the gear sign, referring to the «Settings» menu. From there, we make sure that the "Record audio" option is activated.
Once verified, and with that same floating icon, we are going to record the video call. Before starting it, or during it, click on the icon of a miniature camcorder, the app will ask us if we are sure, click on "Start now" and a countdown will start automatically. There is nothing more to do, we can only edit the recording a posteriori, to add effects or eliminate elements that we do not want to appear in the video.
Alternatives for recording video calls
The option we have offered is one of the best without a doubt. However, in Android it is already a trend to bring to the fore other alternatives, whatever the utility. To record video calls it was not going to be less, although we will show you a couple of applications.
Call recording - ACR
Another option would be to use this app, since we can choose the recording format, we can delete the parts that we don't want. It incorporates the Call Recorder app, so we can also record calls. In addition, we have an internal recycling system in case we want recover some recording that we had deleted, we can mark some as important so that we cannot delete them by mistake, etc.

In addition, it allows us to protect our password recordings, use formats such as MP3, M4A, OGG, WAV, AMR, 3GP or FLAC, share recordings, filters to the recordings' own files or upload recordings to the cloud or email such as Gmail, Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, WebDAV, FTP, and WebHooks. It has a Premium mode that costs 1,89 euros and that gives us the possibility of uploading audios to the cloud.
Mobizen Screen Recorder
Another tool that can be used to record video calls on Android is Mobizen Screen Recorder. It is free and with it we can take screenshots, possibility of recording in Full HD and we can even connect our smartphone to the computer. The recordings can be in 1080p, as we just told you, but to 60 fps, so they will have a lot of quality.
We can record long videos, since we can choose to record them on the SD card, if we have little internal storage space. But it is that it allows us to do so many changes and editing to the video that we can customize them to our liking, even with Intro or credits and all this without any type of watermark in the resulting files.
