Differentiating between a real Dual SIM, from a Dual SIM with SD

  • Dual SIM phones are common, but not all of them offer the same features.
  • Many devices limit the use of SIM and microSD in combined slots.
  • The Moto G4 Plus is an example of a true Dual SIM phone.
  • It is crucial to check the number of slots when choosing a Dual SIM mobile.

A while ago, Dual SIM phones were a rarity on the market. Today it is common. Many arrive already being Dual SIM mobiles. But the truth is that you have to differentiate between a real Dual SIM mobile, and one that is not. Why? Because if we need to use a microSD card and two SIM cards, it will not be so easy to find a mobile that offers us this feature.

The current Dual SIM

One of the big problems is that what is promoted today as Dual SIM is not real Dual SIM. Yes, it is true that mobile phones have two memory card slots, but in many cases, these two memory card slots are not only for SIM cards. One of them is for a SIM card, the other can be used for a SIM card or for a microSD card. A great idea, except for one problem. Anyone who needs a microSD card to store the photos and videos that take up a lot of space and that are captured by the mobile, and also need the two SIM cards, will no longer be able to use the mobile as he wanted.

The real Dual SIM

Instead, there are other smartphones that are real Dual SIM. That is, they have two SIM card slots that do not share the slot with the microSD card. In these smartphones, there are three slots, being the card for the microSD card. One of the most remarkable cases that I have seen is the Moto G4 Plus. For many reasons. I already liked the mobile phone a lot, but it is also those small details that make it different from a much cheaper Chinese mobile that I love. And it is that in addition to having a microSD card slot and two microSIM card slots, each of the slots contains an adapter for nanoSIM cards. So ... whether we have nanoSIM or microSIM, we can install it easily. The mobile already arrived with the two adapters, and that seemed great to me. Be that as it may, if you are going to buy a mobile and it is essential that it be Dual SIM, but you also need to use a microSD, keep it in mind, because not all mobile phones have three slots, but the most common is to combine a slot for one or another card, but not for both options.
