Don't be disturbed anymore: How to block notifications while you play

  • Notifications can interrupt your mobile game and there are solutions to avoid this.
  • Notifications can be disabled natively through the Android system settings.
  • Do Not Disturb mode allows you to customize which notifications you will receive during gameplay.
  • There are applications like 'Gaming Mode' to block notifications and optimize device performance.

Who has not had that moment of being playing with the mobile and in one of the most decisive moments, a notification appears and distracts us. That's when our game ends. For everything in this life there is a solution, that is why we are going to show you some tricks to block those notifications.

They are very simple, specifically they are two different methods but both will take very little time, so it is worth trying to see how it works. Some manufacturers already include a 'Gaming Mode' in their terminals, but also there is a solution for those who do not include it.

Turn off notifications natively

In the latest versions of the Android system, it is possible to modify these types of parameters, without having to be root or carry out complex processes. If we go to settings, depending on the customization layer, we will see a section called "Applications or Notifications". Once we have entered that menu, we will go more specifically to the "Notifications" options.

Well, the screen shows us all the installed applications, and now we just need to select the one we want and block its alerts. When we have chosen any app, its data will appear, such as the storage or the permissions granted, but the first thing we will see is the "Notifications" section. If we enter, there are several options we have to configure the alerts, being able to choose between not showing them or disable notification bubble, which is really what bothers us when we play.

Opt for 'Do not disturb' mode

For us to understand each other, it is an option that is one notch below Airplane Mode. That is, it allows you a more specific configuration of what remains working and what does not when you activate it. It is designed to turn off all sounds, calls and notifications on your mobile when you don't want them to bother you. The difference is that, unlike airplane mode, in this mode you will be able to establish exceptions with which you do want messages or calls to arrive.

Activate mode Do not bother it is as easy as activating the airplane mode of your mobile. On most Android devices, all you have to do is swipe with two fingers from the top of the phone to display the quick functions menu. In it, one of the functions is to Do not bother; so it would be enough to tap it to activate it. If for some reason it is not there, you have to enter the Settings menu of your mobile, and once inside click on the option »Sound» to access its parameters. Once there, we will see the option "Do not disturb" to activate it.

Download this app as the last option to block notifications

If for some reason, we do not have that option in the settings menu due to the version of the operating system, we always have a bullet in the chamber. On Google Play there are several applications that perform that function of blocking notifications.

That app in question is called Gaming Mode, alluding to the way that some manufacturers already include. Its features are very simple. In the lower right corner, we have the button to add the games that we want to configure to the list, with the possibility of customizing the brightness of the screen, changing the volume and blocking calls.

We can also block the game's Internet access or reject WhatsApp video calls, all managed from the gear icon located to the right of the game. In addition, the app manages the performance of the smartphone, eliminating background functions to free up RAM and allow the mobile to be optimized for the game.

We can choose this globally for all games, or individually. In this way, the app allows us to turn the smartphone into a device totally focused on gaming, since everything indicates that they will include more new features in its interface. A whitelist of apps or widgets to launch desktop games are some of the new features that may be coming soon.
