It almost seems like a joke. Google Assistant, the great intelligent assistant from Google that was going to rival Siri, and that was presented last year, will not arrive in Spanish, at least, until next year. This is officially confirmed by the company through a statement in which it says that mobiles with Android 6.0 Marshmallow will receive the assistant, although only in a few languages.
Since Android 6.0 Marshmallow
The exclusive that the Google Pixel had with this smart assistant is over. So far, only the latest Google phones had Google Assistant, but the truth is that it seemed clear that it would soon reach more smartphones, starting with the rest of the Nexus range. However, the process will be much faster, and it will not only be for the Nexus, but a whole range of mobiles will already receive Google Assistant as long as it has Android 6.0 Marshmallow, or a later version of the operating system, as well as the Google Play services. That already includes a good number of smartphones. In fact, at the Mobile World Congress 2017, Google will have present smartphones from different manufacturers, such as Sony, LG, HTC and Samsung, which will already be running Google Assistant.
But not in spanish
However, the problem is that the platform will not yet be available in Spanish. It can be installed by all users who speak English or German in a few countries, including the United States, United Kingdom and Germany, as long as the smartphones meet the above requirements. But if you speak Spanish, forget it. And the worst of all is that according to Google, new languages will be arriving for this platform from next year. That means that the intelligent assistant in Spanish would not arrive until 2018. We can think that in 2018 it will arrive in Spanish, since this should be one of the first languages in which the platform should be available, as it is the second most widely spoken language in the world. Even so, 2018 is a distant date, and more if we consider that the Google Pixels were launched with this smart assistant last year.
