Nowadays, digital voice assistants they are a very common part in most mobile phones. Google has Google Assistant, Samsung has Bixby and, henceforth, Huawei will bet, as with the AppGallery store, by your own wizard tool: HiAssistant.
HiAssistant, Huawei's new digital assistant for China
The sector of digital assistants, according to market figures, is dominated by Google and Amazon with Assistant and Alexa respectively. Because of this, many other companies dare not enter into direct competition with the two giants, and Huawei is no exception. HiAssistant will be your digital assistant, but at the moment it will only be available on the Chinese market.
Despite this regional limitation, the truth is that Huawei is building a very capable tool that can look at its two great competitors from you to you. The first step is, based on its HiAI technology, to improve the use through voice commands, going from simple tasks to more complex tasks. This is an improvement on Natural Language Understanding, which is the ability of artificial intelligences to understand phrases and structures outside of predetermined patterns. This ultimately adds fluency when using an assistant.
A digital assistant with the features you expect
There will be two requirements (in addition to being from the Chinese market) for a Huawei mobile to be able to use HiAssistant one hundred percent: Kirin 970 as CPU and EMUI 8.1 as software. The official premiere will probably be made with the launch of future Huawei P20s. The list of available commands is very long, but you can expect everything from controlling sections such as Bluetooth or Wi-Fi connections to software functions such as night mode or volume control. There are also clues in the code that indicate an integration with popular apps like WeChat. It can also be used for mobile payments.
Finally, a fundamental tool will be HiVision, which will act in the style of Google Lens. This means that HiAssistant AI will be able to identify key elements in an image and provide relevant information based on it. This also includes barcode information. All this follows from firmware code analysis, and it remains to be seen, once launched, how effective HiAssistant is. Huawei's possible success in the Chinese market with its digital assistant could push it to move the tool to the international market. With its next expansion into the US market, and despite appearing reluctant to compete directly with Google and Amazon, it is a possibility that is very present.
