Xiaomi is working on a new version of its smart bracelet, a Xiaomi Mi Band 2The previous edition was one of the most popular bracelets. economic that could be bought and still had the 90% of the functions of those that cost up to six times more. What will the new version of Xiaomi's smart bracelet be like?
Inexpensive bracelet?
In the first place, it would be necessary to see and analyze if the smart bracelet will be as economical as the first Xiaomi Mi BandThe truth is that the company is starting to release devices that are more expensive than they were when the company first started releasing smartphones. This is the case with the Xiaomi Mi5, which will be more expensive than previous flagships, and the new Xiaomi Earphones, which cost 80 euros. It must be said, however, that they are not more expensive so the company can make more money, but because the company has decided to release devices with better features. Thus, the Xiaomi Earphones have truly remarkable audio quality, and the Xiaomi Mi5 will not only be on par with the flagships, but will surpass them. That said, the most logical thing would be to think that the new Xiaomi Mi Band 2 It will also be more expensive. Even so, even if it doubled the price of the previous one, it would still cost less than 50 euros, so the price would still be very affordable.

Heart rate monitor, more sports, one screen
Actually, anyone who has used various smart wristbands can come to a quick conclusion if they have tried the Xiaomi Mi Band. It has 90% of the functions of any smart bracelet that costs up to 100 euros. If we compare it with the Misfit Shine, for example, we find that the Xiaomi is noticeably cheaper, and its only shortcomings are that it has fewer LEDs, and it is unable to tell us the time, and it is not compatible with as many sports as the Misfit Shine, which is suitable for tennis, basketball, and soccer. On the other hand, the Xiaomi Mi Band has a vibration function to notify us of new notifications on the smartphone, so it even has additional functions. What is missing? What is almost all smart bracelets that are not watches, and that is the heart rate monitor, and compatibility with more sports. If it had these two features, it would be a near-perfect bracelet, especially if it came in at a price under €50. It would be very similar to the Microsoft Band. Although to reach the latter, it would need a small screen. Of course, we have to keep in mind that the Microsoft Band, for example, is priced at $200. Whatever the case, we can expect the price/performance ratio to be maintained, even if the price is higher. In fact, it would be advisable, as it would offer a greater number of functions.

In health and sport, the Mi Band 2 offers rapid pulse measurements (not continuous), basic sleep tracking, daily goals and vibration alerts for calls and messages without displaying the sender. Does not integrate GPS ni NFC, and its sports profiles are basic; if you want routes, you can start them from your mobile with the app to use GPS of the telephone.
The body is light, waterproof IP67, and the removable capsule fits into a comfortable strap. The battery, low consumption, prioritizes autonomy: there are users who achieve long periods between charges with moderate use.
Key specifications and design
- Screen OLED compact size with vertical view and capacitive button.
- Sensor PPG for heart rate, accelerometer for steps and calories.
- IP67 resistance Dust and splash resistant; comfortable everyday use.
- Bluetooth for synchronization with the mobile and vibration for notices.
- Autonomy oriented to several days per load and removable capsule to load.

Health and sports functions
For daily monitoring, the bracelet records steps, estimated distance y Calories with good consistency for an entry-level wearable. The sleep tracking helps to distinguish between light and deep phases, and the vibration alarms allow you to wake up without disturbing. In addition, the reminder Sedentary lifestyle encourages you to move after long periods of inactivity.
It is convenient to differentiate it from more recent models of the brand (for example, Redmi or Xiaomi lines). Current Smart Bands), which add SpO2, estimate of Stress, female health o 30 sports modes. These functions expand the sporting scope, but they are not part from the original Mi Band 2 set, focused on the essentials with great quality / price ratio.
Autonomy and charging
One of its greatest attractions is the autonomy. Thanks to its efficient screen and non-intrusive sensors, the Mi Band 2 can reach many days of use with active notifications. With intensive use (many screen checks and frequent pulse measurements), the figure decreases, but remains at very competitive levels compared to more expensive bracelets.
Charging is done by extracting the capsule of the bracelet and connecting it to the proprietary cable. It is a design that maintains the sealed body and contributes to durability; the process is simple, although it requires removing the module when it's time to recharge.
Software and compatibility
The Mi Band 2 syncs with the Xiaomi app (My Fit/My Fitness), from where they are managed objectives, are consulted graphics and preferences are adjusted notifications and alarms. It is compatible with Android and iOS, pairs quickly and maintains a stable connection throughout the day. The watch faces are simple and focused on clear reading of data.
Who it's for (and who it's not for)
- Ideal if you are looking for a light, cheap bracelet and with the basics well resolved: steps, sleep, pulse rate and vibration alerts.
- Less recommended if you need Integrated GPS, advanced measurements (SpO2, stress) or media control from the wrist.
Having tried a few quantizer bracelets, I can say that even under construction, the Xiaomi Mi Band I was surprised, and I would not dare to recommend a different one for those who are not willing to spend 100 euros on a bracelet. Hopefully the same happens with the Xiaomi Mi Band 2, which will be presented very soon, probably in February. What remains to be seen is whether these bracelets will end up winning the game against smartwatches, as they seem to have fewer drawbacks than these.
The Mi Band 2 proposal confirms Xiaomi's formula: prioritize simplicity, autonomy or with a very competitive priceIf your priority is measuring the essentials without complications or high costs, it remains a solid benchmark in its category.
