ICE calls your emergency contacts even if your mobile is locked

  • ICE allows you to make emergency calls without unlocking your phone.
  • The app requires Android 7 and access to the contact list.
  • A widget can be activated to facilitate quick calls.
  • There are additional tips for using your cell phone in emergencies.

As a security measure you will have some close people, probably parents or siblings, marked as contacts to notify if something has happened to you. And it is that in times of emergency there is not much time to think, but there will be an element on your smartphone that despite being very useful can play a trick on you: the PIN or unlock pattern of your phone. If you want to skip this step, ICE will allow you to call your emergency contacts even if your phone is locked.

A shortcut in the upper window

As we mentioned, your phone's security system blocks access to it as well as calls. Of course, you have an emergency call button placed under the lock to call the emergency services, but if you need to call someone you trust, it is best to have a terminal with free access or an app that overcomes this 'obstacle' .

ICE is the app that enables your calls in emergency situations. Of course, the first thing you have to do is download the application from the Play Store, but you must bear in mind that it will only work if your smartphone works with Android 7. Once installed on your terminal, it will ask for your permission to enter your agenda, from the one you have to import those priority contacts.

Once you have chosen those trusted people, you just have to activate the widget in the drop-down window at the top of the terminal. Normally here you will find other quick access buttons such as the activation of the WiFi, Bluetooth, line status, the flashlight or the airplane mode among other tactile adjustment buttons. If you press the pencil icon, all the hidden widgets will be displayed, including the ICE one. You just have to drag it from 'the bench' to the part where all the frequently used buttons are.

Now, if you find yourself in an emergency situation, you just have to make a gesture and press a button to access and call all the contacts you chose at the time. ICE will automatically call the contact you choose from the small list you made. This way, the data on your phone will be protected while you can make a call to a trusted person to help you.

Tips for using your mobile in emergency situations

Apart from using this emergency call app, it is good to follow some tips to use your mobile phone well in extreme situations. Besides ICE, there are other methods to place a contact on the lock screen, although if you are one of those who have to help there are applications that teach you first aid techniques to help those in need.
