Therefore, and as you can see in the image that we show below (which is a capture of the page of Sony Mobile), the final version that the Sony Xperia SP will have is the Jelly Bean (4.3), which came from Android 4.1. That is, as stated on the manufacturer's own page, the final version that the phone will get is the one we have mentioned before.
And the truth is that the terminal has the necessary hardware to be able to move the Android 4.4 version efficiently, since it integrates a processor 1,7GHz dual-core Snapdragon and the amount of RAM amounts to 1GB. That is, there must be other reasons or components that advise against updating or that are giving Sony developers problems.
In this way, and if you already have the update with Android 4.3, to be able to advance in relation to the development versions of the Google operating system, you will have to resort to some ROM, since officially you will not be able to get it. And, the truth is that with the aforementioned components, surely more than one independent developer, or groups like CyanogenMod, cover the needs of users, but always outside the "Sony universe", so they would lose some applications such as Walkman.
The truth is that this is a "stick" for users who have a Sony Xperia SP, since it was assumed that this model would have KitKat which would have meant improved performance and increased safety when using it. But, the case is that this model is no longer supported when updating its operating system and, therefore, the latest firmware for it remains on Android 4.3. A shame
