The long-awaited Amazon event in which the new Kindle Fire, the new tablet of this company, was presented, has been settled with two new models that position this company as one of the most important in terms of the tablet market and, in particular, in devices with screens below 9 ”.
The name of the new product range is Kindle Fire HD, and it will have two members clearly differentiated by the size of its screen: one has 7 " - thus maintaining those of the original Kindle Fire - and a resolution of 1.280 x 800, and, the second, has 8,9 ", with a resolution 1.920 x 1.200 and a density per inch of 254 dpi. Therefore, Amazon expands the offer of tablets.
Both models have several characteristics in common, such as their SoC Texas Instrument OMAP4470 dual-core clocked at 1,2 GHz ; 1 GB of RAM, inclusion of NFC; two integrated antennas -one of 2,4 GHz and another of 5 GHz- that allow to use the enhanced communication technology MIMO; Exit HDMI; standard Bluetooth; and, finally, the compatibility of its sound with Dolby Digital Plus. In addition, the storage capacity varies in both models. between 16 and 32 GB. Its dimensions are 193 x 137 x 10,7 mm and its weight of 395 grams.
Apart from the screen size, the big difference between the two models is their price and availability (the reservation can be made from today in the available countries):
- Kindle Fire HD 16 GB and 7 "screen will be available on September 14 and its price will be $199.
- Kindle Fire HD 16 GB and 8,9 "screen, will go on sale on November 20 and will cost $299.
As you can see, when it comes to prices, Amazon is more than willing to stand up to Google's Nexus 7 and, in this way, dispute the current reign of tablets under 9 ".
UPGRADE: We received an email today stating that there is already a link to make a reservation for Kindle Fire HD at Spain. The price of the model 7 ″ will be € 199 with 16 GB and € 249 with 32 GB. Its release date will be on October 25, 2012. Of the 8,9 ″ model nothing is indicated.
New software services
Apart from the new tablets, Amazon has presented several specific services for Kindle Fire HD, which will make the use of these devices much more efficient and useful. An example of this is Whispersync for Voice, which allows the synchronization of the more than 100.00 audiobooks that Amazon has with the textbooks that the user has.
It has also been presented X-Ray for Movies, which allows you to know the metadata of the movie you are watching, or Kindle Free Time, which acts as the parental control of the tablet. Additionally, support for Exchange mail and support for Google, Hotmail and Yahoo!
For now the new Kindle Fire HD range is available in the US, but Amazon has confirmed that it is working to offer it in many more countries in not too long ... hopefully one of them is Spain.
