La WiFi connection of our home is a fundamental element when it comes to connecting all our devices. It is important that the connection is fluid so that everything goes correctly. A key point is to know what channel to configure. We teach you how to do this with your Android mobile.
What is a wifi channel?
Defining briefly, a channel of a Wifi connection is the road that a router takes to send the signal. All the channels together form the frequency of the signal. And for Wi-Fi connections there are three frequency ranges: 2 GHz, 4 GHz and 3 GHz.
Depending on the territory in which we are, one or other frequencies will be used and there will be a maximum number of channels available. Thirteen channels are commonly used in Europe, so we have those thirteen options to configure.
Why is it important to choose the channel well? For the jams that can occur if all routers in your area decide to use the same channel. By default, most routers will leave the selection on automatic and will choose one or the other channel as appropriate. The fluctuation will be practically continuous and it is more than likely that at times the overlap will be permanent.
Find out which channel to choose with Wifi Analyzer
To avoid traffic jams, we must choose a more empty road. And to determine this we will need Wifi Analyzer, a free app available on the Play Store. Once you download and open it, you will see a chart in which it indicates the connections in your area.
On horizontal axis you will see channels one through thirteen. At vertical axis you will see the strength of the Wifi signals. Look for your signal and, if it is stacked next to another, you will realize that it is time to change the channel. Doing so won't prevent all overlaps, but it will fix a few issues.
Wifi Analyzer offers several screens with different information. In one you will see the strength of the specific signal you choose, in other detailed information of all the networks and in the last screen a analysis dedicated to channels. Choose your network and it will recommend which channel to use. You only have to change it in the configuration of your router.
