Lists of places on Google Maps from a computer

Google Maps has revolutionized our daily lives by providing access to information about any city or location and guiding us there efficiently and directly using our device's GPS. Recently, it introduced new features to make this process even easier, such as place lists, but these weren't available on all platforms.

Creating lists of places is now available on our laptop or desktop PC

Until now, this tool was exclusive to smartphones , and adding new places could sometimes be difficult. Now you can use these lists from your computer , making it much more convenient to plan a trip or anything else, as you can put aside the phone's touchscreen and use a good keyboard and mouse.

How can we use it? It's very simple. Just find a site you want to visit or save, select it, and once you're in its menu, click the "Save" button . Another submenu will appear where you can choose the list where you want to save your selection or create a new list.

Furthermore, you can easily share it on all your social networks by accessing the list in question - from the drop-down menu at the top left and then going to "Your places" - and clicking on the share icon. Once there, you will get a link ready to be shared, which will allow your friends to see all the places you have added to that list.

This new feature is supposed to roll out over the next few weeks, but I can already use it without any problems. To be honest, it's not something we'll use every day, but it's always good to have it available in case we want to plan a trip and have all the places on Google Maps ready to visit.

Just a few days ago, we also mentioned that Google Maps plans to expand a new booking service for businesses like hair salons. They've also introduced a new map that users can access offline —you can read the article by clicking here — all of which suggests the company intends to make this app indispensable.

How to create a list and save sites from your computer

Save places to Google Maps lists

On your computer, open Google Maps and go to Saved . At the top, you'll see New list : here you can add a name and description and click Save . To add places: search for a location on the map, click Save , and choose your list. If you prefer, you can create a list right then and there without leaving the map.

To view your collections, return to Saved . From there you'll see all your lists and can open them on the map. This option is perfect for planning trips and keeping your favorite places handy without wasting time.

Edit, rearrange, or delete lists and places

Go to Saved and open the list to tap Edit List . You can change the name , description , and order of the places, as well as delete items with a single click. Changes are saved automatically . For each place, you can add notes below the address with a maximum of 4.000 characters —perfect for schedules, recommendations, or reminders.

To control how lists are displayed, use the menu for each list and choose Show on map or Hide on map . This prevents your map from becoming cluttered when managing multiple collections.

Sharing and collaborating: privacy, links, and editors

Open a list, tap Share , and choose: Private (only you) or Shared (whoever has the link). You can also enable Allow Editing for teamwork and invite collaborators via email or link; likewise, you can remove editors when needed. Important: Featured sites cannot be shared.

When sharing, you have two options: send a link to view or adjust sharing settings to decide who can find your listings. This flexibility makes Maps a perfect collaborative tool for leisure routes, work, or events.

Follow other people's lists and manage visibility

If you open someone else's public or shared list, tap Follow to add them to your Saved section . Their places will appear as suggested locations on the map. You can unfollow them from the list itself using the Following button . For teams, this is a quick way to consolidate reliable recommendations.

Advanced tips and helpful explanations

– Add context to each location: what to order, average price, or whether it's worth making a reservation. – Sort by proximity to optimize your route. – Exporting lists : there's no direct export from Google Maps; if you need a file, recreate the list in Google My Maps and import places from a spreadsheet to share a customized map.

Creating, saving, editing, sharing, and following lists amplifies what already made Google Maps great: organization, collaboration, and quick access to information . Whether you have a getaway in mind or need to use it for daily work, lists transform the map into a precise and shareable action plan.
