The expected processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 de it could be much closer to being a reality in the market than previously thought. So much so, that this new SoC, which would come to replace the unattractive 810, would be presented this same month of August and would offer a performance of up to 35% than its predecessor. Good prospects.
The truth is that the pressure that Qualcomm is undergoing in the processor market suggests that its response would not take long to occur, and thus the official announcement could arrive on August 11th, XNUMX. In this way, the manufacturer would already have the weapon with which to compete with the models that MediaTek and Samsung have on the market - and that are offering good sensations both in terms of performance and heat dissipation, a problem this last one that has been a headache with the Snapdragon 810-.
And, the truth is that there has been a leak of information regarding the Snapdragon 820 that would show that Qualcomm's bet is strong and that, as we have indicated before, offering a higher performance than the current SoC for the high-end of this company is something totally viable. For example, the manufacturing technology that would be used is the 14 nanometer FinFet (which would allow a greater number of transistors inside the component and, in addition, it would favor heat dissipation). Additionally, it would have four Hydra-type cores with optimized capacity.
Everything looks pretty good
An example of this that I comment is that the new Snapdragon 820 would integrate inside a new graphics card (GPU) Adreno 530. This will also clearly improve the ability to handle 40D graphics, with a capacity greater than almost 30%. Besides, this would be achieved with an advance in terms of consumption, where battery savings would be XNUMX%. If this is confirmed, we are facing a high-level hardware element.
Other details that have been known about the new processor is that it will support memory type Dual channel LPDDR4 with frequencies of up to 1.866 MHz and cameras with a sensor of a maximum of 28 megapixels (this can clearly indicate where the steps of companies that plan to use the Snapdragon 820 in their high-end models). By the way, the supported recording is 4K quality at 60 frames per second.
Well, the truth is that if all this is confirmed, and the overheating problems disappear, the Snapdragon 820 can mean a major breakthrough for Qualcomm in the SoC market for mobile devices, something that is absolutely necessary as competition in this market segment is increasing.
