LG G5 metal unibody case

The LG G5 is another flagship that could be launched at the beginning of the cycle, and in fact there has even been talk of a possible early presentation of said smartphone. That will be confirmed when the time comes, but what is being talked about now is its possible design, and it could have a metal unibody housing, one of the great new features of the smartphone.

Metallic unibody housing

The LG G4 is a great smartphone, but its design wasn't like other flagships on the market. Without metal or glass, the smartphone came in two versions, the main one with a leather shell, and another, cheaper version with a plastic casing. However, it seems that the new flagship will come with new features in terms of design. Specifically, it would feature a metal unibody casing, in the style of the reference models, with a very fluid between glass and aluminum which improves grip and feel in hand.

This approach maintains straighter lines, a polished edge type “Shiny Cut” to improve ergonomics and the fingerprint reader on the back, with the main buttons moved to the sides. The design team's mission was to make the G5 look more only one piece, without any perceptible gaps or joints.

LG G5 launch

Regarding the launch of the LG G5, there have been rumors for weeks that the new smartphone could be unveiled before the end of the sales period, with a launch a few weeks later. Given that the LG G4 was one of the last flagships to be unveiled at the time, it seemed unlikely that the LG G5 would be too early. However, a presentation close to major technology fairs and a launch shortly after It has always been a possibility. There has also been talk of sharing the shop window with other flagship brands such as Samsung o Xiaomi, although its commercial window will most likely be at the beginning of the calendar year.

Modular system and removable battery

One of the big surprises of the LG G5 is its modular system: A side button releases the bottom edge, which simultaneously removes the battery. This allows the G5 to maintain a unibody metal body while simultaneously 2.800 mAh removable battery. The module LG CAM Plus adds a grip with physical buttons (shot, video and zoom wheel), as well as Additional 1.200 mAh which raises the total capacity to approximately 4.000 mAh, at the expense of some thickness and weight. Zoom is managed by seamlessly switching between sensors, and the port, speaker, and microphone are replicated within the module itself so as not to lose functionality.

The second key accessory is LG Hi-Fi Plus with B&O Play, a 32-bit/384 kHz portable DAC geared toward high-fidelity sound. It can be attached to the device or used separately with other devices, reinforcing the brand's multimedia offering, a proposal that opens the door to more modules.

Display, performance and connectivity

The panel is a 5,3-inch Quantum IPS with QHD resolution (2.560 x 1.440). It incorporates Always‑On to display time and notifications with an estimated consumption of ~0,8% per hour and a Daylight Mode which raises the brightness up to ~850 nits for better outdoor visibility. The gesture of double touch to wake up.

It comes in several colors (silver, titanium, gold and pink) with a body measuring 149,4 x 73,9 x 7,7–8,6 mm and 159 g.

Cameras and the "Friends" ecosystem

The rear combines a 16 MP sensor with another of 8 MP 135º wide angle, along with laser focus and dual dual-tone LED flash. The front camera is 8 MP. This system allows for more creative shots, alternating between standard wide angle and large field of vision for landscapes or interiors.

The ecosystem LG Friends add accessories like 360 Orange, 360 VR o rolling bot, and even design details like the yellow battery to reinforce a more playful concept. Overall, the G5 seeks to offer a complete experience that combines design, performance, and practical modules.

With its metallic body, photography and audio modules, dual camera and smart screen, the LG G5 is positioned as a proposition different and ambitious capable of competing against any top of the range.
