It seems that the changes being prepared at the Korean company for 2015 also include hardware components. For example, everything seems to indicate that there will be surprises regarding processors, and even that they are working on a GPU designed by Samsung.
We've already discussed this on Android Help , and it's true that, as we mentioned, this is no small undertaking—since they have to start from scratch to design and fully functionalize an essential component of mobile devices . Furthermore, we're talking about a key component, as what's displayed on the screen and the overall performance of a phone or tablet (especially with 3D games) directly depend on it.
The fact is that everything seems to be much further along than initially thought, and according to reports in various media outlets, a final version integrated into a processor could be available by mid-2015 (meaning the Galaxy Note 5 could be the first to use the component). Therefore, it appears the design is complete and the testing phase of the GPU designed by Samsung is underway .
The truth is that the new GPU could be part of a new 64-bit processor from the Korean company—using its own proprietary design—leaving aside the usual ARM architecture. If so, this would be a very significant change, and it remains to be seen how it will be implemented in Android. This would eliminate the company's reliance on third-party manufacturers for its mobile device hardware.
In short, 2015 looks set to be a very interesting year for the Koreans , as everything points to major developments in their market strategy. One example is the development of a GPU designed by Samsung (not to mention flexible displays). Furthermore, there will also be new designs for their flagship devices, such as the Galaxy S6 – internally codenamed Project Zero.
