Is the time on your Android phone wrong?

  • Incorrect time on smartphones can affect alarms and updates.
  • Operators may offer incorrect hours, affecting several users.
  • The time zone can also be the source of the problem.
  • Disabling auto-sync and manually setting the time is a possible solution.

If you have come this far, you may be another one of those users who are seeing how the time on their smartphones changes lately and is never correct. Why is this happening? What are the possible solutions to this problem? We explain what you can do if the time on your Android mobile is wrong.

Time issues

In general, many of us have our mobile configured with the "Automatic time and date" option. This option uses the time that the operator offers so that this is the time that the smartphone has. The time for us can be something very relevant. It is, for example, if we have alarms configured on the smartphone. Only 10 minutes of difference can already make us late for an important meeting, and the worst thing is that we would not even have realized that the time is wrong. It can even be very relevant for firmware updates, or even applications like WhatsApp. When they have to connect to online servers, the fact that the mobile's time is different from that of the server can cause some functions to be deactivated. In this case, as we have said, the time is provided by the operator, so it would be his fault. The big problem is that we don't have many possibilities, since it is the operator who should change the time it offers. For some reason, some operators in Spain are giving the wrong hours to smartphones, and they occur intermittently to smartphones from different manufacturers, so do not think that it is a problem with your mobile, or with your operating system.

Time zone issues

You could also find that your problem is with the time zone that you have configured on your mobile. Actually, if we have "Automatic Time and Date", the time zone is also set automatically with the operator. There is a possibility that the time is being offered by the operator, but the time zone is not, so in any case we would find an incorrect time, or with problems when connecting with online servers, either to update the smartphone, or to use WhatsApp, for example.

Automatic date and time

A satisfactory solution

The only solution we find is not exactly the best, but it is the only one we have. Calling the operator and communicating the problem is impossible. If it is already complex to be attended to precisely, communicating an error of this type and hoping that they are able to understand what is happening seems impossible. And in any case, it will still be a while until it is fixed, so it is still not a real solution for us. The only thing we can do is go to the mobile settings and look for Date and Time. Depending on the mobile, only the option of Automatic date and time will appear, or also the option of Automatic time zone. The best we can do is deactivate these options, since the operator is not offering the information accurately, and configure the time, date and time zone ourselves. To do this, we will only have to find the atomic time of the place where we live. We could also use a smartphone or tablet that does have the automatic date and time options active and that we know are correct, and see what values it has configured automatically.

Unfortunately, it is not ideal, as it would be best if the Automatic date and time option worked correctly for the operator. However, it is the only option if we do not want our mobile to be constantly changing the time it has, which is the problem that many users are having right now.
