Xiaomi launch: Final clues for Mi TV 3 or Mi Pad and what to expect from the event

  • The official images reinforce two options: a 4K TV with MEMC or a 7,9-inch metal tablet.
  • Mi TV 3 features an LG 4K panel, full connectivity, and an ultra-thin aluminum frame design.
  • Mi Pad fits with 4GB/64GB, hexa-core chip, 6.600mAh and 2048x1536 display.
  • Whether it's a TV or a tablet, Xiaomi will repeat its formula of great workmanship and competitive price.

Xiaomi Mi TV 3 or Mi Pad Launch

On July 16th Xiaomi will launch a new device, which could be either the Xiaomi Mi TV 3 or the Xiaomi Mi Pad, the new tablet. Both options are possible, but in either case, there will be really striking features which will make it a unique television or tablet.

What we know

Xiaomi Mi TV 3 or Mi Pad presentation

We know almost nothing about the characteristics of this new Xiaomi television or tablet. However, we are starting to have official photographs, published by the company itself, which already shows what this new launch will look like. In fact, we still don't know if it will be a television or a tablet, despite the photos.

As you can see, there are four photographs that give us some information. The first one includes the phrase "Tradition," while the second states that "The art of manufacturing has reached a new level." The third means "Refinement in all aspects," which allows us to think that whatever it is will improve remarkably to the previous version. While the last of the photographs allows us to see the thickness of the new television, and it seems that it will be only 5 millimeters. It may seem impossible, but it isn't. Creating a tablet that's thinner than a mobile phone is simpler, as it has more space to store components and the battery. And the same goes for a television, as we've already seen something very similar in previous Xiaomi televisions. For now, however, both options are possible, and we can't rule out either of them.

Xiaomi Launch

If it ends up being Mi TV 3: keys that fit

If the ad corresponds to a television, the Xiaomi We TV 3 It fits in with the brand's catalog by design and product fit. Among the points we can expect based on the range's history:

  • 60-inch 4K panel manufactured by LG, a size and resolution already common in the Xiaomi ecosystem.
  • Image processing with MEMC technology to smooth movements and reduce blurring in fast-moving scenes.
  • Premium design with aluminium frame in gold finish and a very slim body: previous reference values in the family point to 11,6 mm at the thinnest point and 36,7 mm at its thickest.
  • Solvent connectivity: 3 HDMI, 2 USB, VGA and Ethernet, in addition to other usual entries.
  • Android-based software with a highly customized interface by Xiaomi (MIUI for TV/PatchWall depending on the market), focused on facilitating access to content.
  • Aggressive price at origin, with a label that has historically been around the middle strip of its category and initially limited availability outside of Asia.

Beyond the technical sheet, Xiaomi usually reinforces its televisions with good app ecosystem, integration of voice assistants and support for advanced image formats (in its recent lines, compatibility with HDR standards and audio such as Dolby Audio/DTS). It would not be surprising if the following of this philosophy were also reflected here.

If it ends up being a Mi Pad: what the leaks suggest

Xiaomi Mi Pad tablet

The tablet alternative also makes a lot of sense. The Mi Pad line has stood out for offering a powerful balance between design, performance, and price. If a new Mi Pad is confirmed in the wake of the Mi Pad 3, this is what fits in with what we've seen in the range:

  • Screen of 7,9 inches with a resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels (4:3 format), clear for reading, gaming and video.
  • Construction in metal, contained bevels, approximate thickness of 6,95 mm and weight of 328 gr.
  • chip MediaTek MT8176 six-core up to 2,1 GHz, accompanied by 4 GB of RAM y 64 GB of storage.
  • Battery 6.600 mAh with 5V/2A charging, autonomy designed for a day of intensive use.
  • Cameras 13 MP rear y 5 MP front, enough for video calls and visual notes.
  • Modern connectivity: USB Type-C, Bluetooth 4.2 and dual-band 802.11ac WiFi.
  • MIUI on Android, with optimizations for fluency in multitasking and energy management.

In terms of price, the Mi Pad family has historically moved in figures very competitive compared to similarly sized alternatives, something that has always benefited its international expansion by having more affordable shipping and distribution than televisions.

Xiaomi Mi Pad or Xiaomi Mi TV 3?

Obviously, we prefer a Xiaomi Mi Pad. Why? Because most of the televisions that Xiaomi has launched have not been available in Spain without having to spend a lot of money on shipping, while the tablets can be obtained with free shipping from the official store. Despite this, it must be said that Xiaomi televisions have a quality / price ratio incredible, and it would be amazing if they arrived now that it seems that some Xiaomi devices are starting to be sold officially in Europe, especially if one of those were the Xiaomi Mi TV 3.

The second photograph reminds us a lot of a television and less of a tablet, but so far only one Xiaomi Mi Pad has been released, and the third phrase, the one about the improvement in all aspects of the device, could refer to a tablet, since it would easily be better than the previous one. It is much more complicated with television if we take into account that they have already released versions with 3D and 4KHow do you improve that? Either way, Xiaomi's new release will be confirmed on July 16th.

As additional clues, in the case of Mi TV 3 its combination of 4K, MEMC and full connectivity makes it an attractive option for home theater; and if the chosen one were Mi Pad, its 7,9-inch panel with high density, the hexa-core chip and its large battery would make it an excellent companion for reading, streaming and casual gaming. In both scenarios, Xiaomi maintains its commitment to stylized design and aggressive prices, so the movement is consistent.

Xiaomi Mi Pad family

The final decision will depend on the regional strategy of the brand: televisions usually arrive first in Asia and then open up to more markets with local content agreements and systems such as PatchWall/Android TV, while tablets, due to logistics and certifications, usually make a place for themselves first in the international stores. Whichever one is chosen, the official clues point to a product with very careful finishes and a clear evolution compared to its predecessor.

There is little left to clear up the unknown: the event will serve to demonstrate whether Xiaomi is inclined to strengthen its ecosystem in the living room with a very complete Mi TV 3, or if it revitalizes the tablet segment once again with a Mi Pad that competes on price, performance, and design. In both cases, there are plenty of reasons to think about a striking launch with aspirations of becoming a best-seller.
