For yet another year, the worldwide sale of smartphones has risen compared to the previous period and has done so significantly. According to the data released by IDC; a total of 2013 million smartphones were sold in 1.004, which is 38,4% more than what was sold in 2012. And who wins the sales ranking? Well, indeed, Samsung, which is crowned one more year as the world number one in terms of smartphone sales.
And it is that almost 314 million smart devices sold corresponded to the Korean manufacturer, which corresponds to a percentage of 31,3%, or what is the same, three out of ten smartphones sold worldwide corresponded to Samsung. The Samsung Galaxy family, which has not stopped growing in recent months, continues in this way to enter more of the market, which makes Android gain a considerable market share.
Far below are the rest of the manufacturers. In second place we see Apple, with 15,3% of sales, which make a total of 153 million iPhones put on the market. Three other manufacturers that mostly bet on Android are the ones that follow the ranking, with Huawei in third position with 4,9%, LG with 4,8% and Lenovo with 4,5% as you can see in the table:
Samsung also dominates in mobile phones
The day will come when we will not have to differentiate between smartphone and mobile phone, but while it arrives, we will have to continue differentiating smartphones from other terminals. In this sense, Samsung also comes out winning, since between smartphones and conventional mobile phones, the company has 24,5% of the market. In other words, between the two types of devices, Samsung has managed to sell 446 million devices worldwide out of a total of 1.821 million.
The sale of mobile phones decreases its percentage in favor of smartphones. In 2013, 55,1% of terminals were smartphones compared to 41,7% the previous year, which indicates the decline of this sector, which is now focused on emerging countries where prices are lower.
