What color is your smartphone? In the last few months, I have had black, gold, white, and silver mobiles. The color does not seem anything relevant with respect to the mobile, right? It seems somewhat subjective. But the truth is that it is not something so subjective, because there are some things to keep in mind when using the smartphone that can make you finally prefer the black version. Or at least, that the frame of the mobile is black.

One of the main reasons to buy a black smartphone is the contrast between the image and the frame of the mobile. Keep in mind that when you are viewing color images on your smartphone with a white frame, the colors will not contrast as much as if the frame is black. It is assumed that the ideal contrast for displays is with a black frame. Of course, a Sony Xperia Z5 Premium with a 4K screen will still be a 4K screen whether it is the white frame or the black frame, but for watching movies the black frame is better.

What I mean is that when the mobile is turned off, the contrast between the black color of the off screen and the white frame is not elegant at all like a smartphone that is completely black when it is off. Of course, this is pure subjectivity, because that contrast may seem precious to any user, but it is a fact to take into account as well. If the frame of the smartphone is black, when the screen is off, it will not be differentiated between what is frame and what is screen. I think it is a more elegant finish, although I usually choose smartphones and tablets in white because in general I like the external appearance more.

Finally, there is a detail that must also be taken into account and that in this case is objective. This is the step between the screen and the frame. Some mobiles have a screen that reaches the end of the mobile frame, but other mobiles and tablets do not. In these cases, if the smartphone or tablet is white, when you are using it with the screen on, you will see the image, a black space, and then the white frame. If the frame is black, that difference will not be noticeable. The image that accompanies this post of an iPad illustrates well what I mean. It is a detail that does not look very good in the design and that, by the way, many companies falsify in their photographs so that it is not appreciable, mainly those that sell Chinese mobile phones, hence the final aspect of the mobile is different from the one we see in the pictures.
Of course, one thing must be taken into account. And it is that the color of the smartphone may not be decisive in some cases. Why? Because there are mobiles and tablets that have a black frame, the back cover being the one that changes color. In such a case, it is clear that the manufacturer has decided that the ideal color for the frame is black, and only the color of the back cover varies.
