Although there had already been talk of the possible launch of other models of the brand, the truth is that the Samsung Galaxy S7 It was shaping up to be the next big leap forward after the redesign of the Galaxy S6. With that idea in mind, doubts arose: what would the new smartphone be like? There were even rumors a section of curved screen specific; below we break down its design proposal and the key functions that accompany it.
Curved screen
Although there was still room to confirm the final design, the first data spoke of a mobile phone with a single curved section, instead of two like the Galaxy S6 Edge. They were even leaked patents that placed the curvature at the bottom. Based on this, we imagined a device that could resemble a possible Galaxy S7, at least on screen.
Over time, Samsung's approach consolidated a more practical approach: the Galaxy S7 maintained the flat panel version and a variant with ergonomic side curves (Edge), designed for shortcuts using Edge-UX and a better grip. The sizes were around 5,1 inches for the standard model and 5,5 inches for the Edge, with panels Super AMOLED QHD protected by Gorilla Glass 4.
Another notable novelty was Always-On Display (AOD), which displays the time, notifications, or calendar with the screen off, minimizing power consumption by taking advantage of the AMOLED properties. All of this was combined with resistance to water and dust IP68, without caps on the charging port.
Magnesium housing
The possibility of a magnesium casing to improve strength and reduce weight compared to aluminum. Although the idea made sense due to its excellent stiffness-to-weight ratio, and there were references to a possible new design, the final model opted for a metal frame and a glass back high quality, achieving a premium aesthetic and better integration with the curvature radii. This approach facilitated a design with smooth lines, compatible with IP68K and without compromising thickness.
The set was completed with a hybrid tray that allowed Samsung to maintain a virtually u and, at the same time, offer memory expansion via microSD In selected markets, a historic demand from users.
Advanced camera and software
Samsung introduced for the first time in its range a Dual Pixel camera, key to a very fast autofocus and reliable even in low light. With a sensor 12 SM, larger pixels and an optician f / 1.7 bright, the device significantly improved night shooting and motion sharpness. Modes such as Moving panorama to give dynamism to traditional panoramas.
In the software section, the layer evolved to more respect native Android, offering cleaner interface, manual controls and support of RAW format For those looking to get the most out of mobile photography. The Edge model's curves have gained quick features and customizable panels that streamline everyday tasks.
Performance, battery and gaming
Depending on the market, the S7 combined Exynos chips of the house and Snapdragon latest generation, both with manufacturing 14 nm FinFET for efficiency and lower temperatures. Accompanied by 4 GB of RAM, offered smooth performance in multitasking and heavy apps.
In terms of autonomy, the terminal took a step forward with batteries of high capacity (with differences between the standard model and the Edge) and fast charge both by cable and Wireless. For the players they arrived Game Launcher, notification controls, game recording and support for Vulkan API, which improves graphics while reducing consumption.
Storage and connectivity
La hybrid SIM tray allowed to add microSD up to high capacities, something key for users who handle RAW photos and high-resolution video. In terms of connectivity, the device relied heavily on microUSB in many markets, maintaining compatibility with existing accessories and ensuring fast charge and solid data transfer.
The combination of curved design, premium materials, Dual Pixel camera, IP68, power with 4 GB RAM, more battery and microSD consolidated the Galaxy S7 as a balanced reference between aesthetics, functionality and performance, evolving what we learned from the S6 and fine-tuning details that users value on a daily basis.
